There's lot of misunderstandings of blockchains and crypto - this talk shows how you can use the ethers.js library to query ("on-chain") contract services on ethereum (for free). The ABI (application binary interface) - "serialized" in JSON - for contract services is kind of emerging as a new (open) standard / spec for (yes, strongly-typed) APIs that you can use in any programming language incl. - of course - JavaScript.
